33 – a Catalogue of Imagination was originally planned as a catalogue for my first watercolour solo exhibition called 33. It was inspired by a game of connecting the dots which my dad showed me when I was in the 5-th grade.
The name – 33 – is completely intentional. It has to do with my 33 years, turned on 11.11. 2015.
I often say it is like 11 three-year olds gathered together.
From this point on everything is as follows:
33 watercolours, 33 x 33 cm each, created in the following manner:
- Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
- Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines.
- The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour
The results can be regarded to a great extent as a journey through the subconscious mind (should we trust Carl Gustav Jung) where we observe a number of amusing encounters.
The watercolour technique is deliberately chosen due to its wilfulness, sheerness and translucency, all corresponding with the existential question of Fate and the extent of our own responsibility in creating our lives through the viewpoint we choose and the path we take.
Each of the works is accompanied by a short story and depictions of the evolution phases, including all 4 viewpoints of the silhouette. However, for obvious reasons only one had to be chosen to evolve into a finished work.
The date for the exhibition opening was set to 11. 03. 2016 because 11 х 3 = 33. The duration of the exposition was 11 days – up to 22 March 2016 at the Europe Art Gallery, Sofia, Bulgaria.
The opening and closing dates combined are 11+22=33. Nice, huh? 😉
And now I wish you amusing and interesting moments and may the Force be with you!
– Meg 🙂
